About

Hi, I'm Shiara

I'm a design engineer from Lima, Peru. I design and build the things I'm passionate about, usually the same thing: I draw it, then I make it, and I've stopped apologising for wanting both halves.

I spent about four years as a product designer, three of them at Scotiabank, handing work off to be built. I could not get used to the gap between the file and the thing that shipped, so I learned to close it myself.

I owe that to two things I did not make: the technology community and open source. Everything I know how to build, I learned from code somebody published for free and from people who answered my questions at a meetup, in a Discord, at one in the morning the night before a demo. That is not a debt you pay back, only forward, which is what most of the list at the bottom of this page is.
